Joan Pynn (aged 102) is a resident of Haven House.She was born in Vancouver but at the age of 12 moved to Birmingham, England.Along with her sister, Joan joined the Auxiliary Territorial Services (ATS), the women's branch of the British Army. She trained for R.A.O.C. (Royal Army Ordinance Corps and was stationed at a supply depot in Derby where parts were requisitioned for military equipment. She was promoted to Sergeant and was responsible for a team of office workers. After four years of exemplary servicen she was discharged from the Army in 1946.
